The Coimbra University announces a research fellowship for a project named “Enhancement of Endogenous Natural Resources in the Central Region”. The researches are related to development of algorithms for optimized access to data and scientific contents in the areas of Earth and Space Sciences (meteorological, seismic, magnetic and solar data), development of a computer application from the algorithms for the identification of solar activity with impact on climate change and database management.

Duration of the fellowship: 12 months and the fellowship contract may be, eventually, renewed.

Value of monthly fee grant: the fellowship amount will be based on the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology rules for fellowships. The value will consist of a monthly maintenance stipend of 980 euros (tax free) for a research fellowship and will be paid at the end of the month, by bank transfer. (In addition, voluntary social insurance corresponding to the first step, if the candidate chooses to assign it, as well as personal accident insurance). The value of the fellowship will not increase over the entire period of its duration.
Activity contract: the granting of the fellowship does not generate or title a legal-labour relationship. It is exercised on an exclusive dedication basis. The Grantor Status of the UC is attributed to the Grantor, as provided for in the Research Grantor Status, and in the Research Grants Regulation of the University of Coimbra, both in its current wording.
Selection method(s): curricular assessment. If there are subsequent ex aequo applications, the selection interview will be carried out first.

Candidates with academic degrees obtained abroad will have to present the records of recognition of these grades and the conversion of their final grades to the Portuguese grading scale (whenever the foreign degree has been final classification), issued by the Directorate-General for Higher Education or by a Portuguese public higher education institution (regime regulated by Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of 12 October) or, alternatively, submit the recognition / equivalence of foreign qualifications to the corresponding Portuguese qualifications, issued by a Portuguese public higher education institution (process regulated by Decree-Law no. 283/83, of June 21).

Deadline for candidature and submission form of applications: from October 26th, 2017 until November 9th, 2017
Notification of the results: The results of the evaluation will be announced up to 30 working days from the deadline for submission of applications, by sending a communication to the candidates, via electronic mail. After the results have been published, candidates will be notified, if they wish, to give their opinion on a prior hearing within a maximum period of 10 business days after that date. After this deadline, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance and communicate the effective start date of the fellowship. Unless the feasible justification is presented, the absence of the declaration within the aforementioned period amounts to a waiver of the scholarship. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the immediately best candidate will be notified.
