C4G is collaborating with ‘Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia e Geofísica de Cabo Verde’ in the instrumental observation of the ongoing eruption of the Fogo volcano.
The first team on the field — Rui Fernandes (UBI), Paulo Almeida (UBI), Paulo Alves (IPMA) and Sandra Heleno (IST) — are deploying GPS stations and seismometers. Instruments to monitor the air quality will follow in the next days. The data collected will serve to improve our knowledge of the volcano’s structure and dynamics, thus contributing to a better management of future risk.
To those who are going, the best luck, and stay safe.
